Oyster Bay is also home to an old ghost boat in transition. I heard this boat used to operate in St. Augustine, but is on its way to New York State. Right now its paddlewheel is a crows' perch.

Speaking of ghosts, I saw the ghost of Catalina de Porras in St. Augustine, Florida. She is a famous ghost who lived in the 1700's. The house she haunted had burned down in 1887 when fire swept the town, but was rebuilt. Catalina's house is now a Harry's Seafood Bar & Grille, and a big group of us had dinner there in 2003. They seated us around a large table upstairs, in the area where Catalina is often detected. Toward the end of the meal, I saw her pull up a chair to join the party, seating herself between me and the woman to my left. She looked like a real person, but lighted and transparent. The vision only lasted a second, and of course, nobody believed me.

St. Augustine claims to have a lot of ghosts, since the city was founded in 1565 (the oldest city in the USA). You can even take a ghost tour, led by Flagler College drama students (GhostsandGravestones.com).
