The Lakes of Tempe Public Art In 2015, The Lakes won a grant from the City of Tempe to install public art. We commissioned public artist Lyle London, who had a vision to build the Egret. The Egret sculpture is made of weathering steel, which acquires a rusted finish. It's twelve feet tall including an arched pedestal. The image above is Lyle's rendering of how it will look installed at the site, the median at Lakeshore Drive and Sandpiper Drive, Tempe. When the Egret was built, it sat in front of Lyle's studio awaiting installation at The Lakes.
